Driving Directions to Bahagia, Whampoa

It is taking Chuck and me a while to navigate in our new neighbourhood. It is rather confusing as Jalan Bahagia is a one-way road. It leads on to Kim Keat Road, it makes it even worse when a short portion of Kim Keat Road is also one-way.

Jln Bahagia is located on the southwest at a criss-cross of 2 major expressways (CTE and PIE). Can you see the cluster of little red houses in the satelite map below? There are a total of 28 blocks of HDB terraces in Jalan Bahagia and Jalan Ma'mor Whampoa.

Anyway, these are the roadnames for me to memorize:

Southwards to the city from Ang Mo Kio

Exit 10 (Braddell), PIE Changi Airport, Exit 8A PIE Tuas, Exit 7D (Balestier / Kallang), Exit 7C (Balestier / Thomson).

From Orchard Road in city going northwards

Exit 7A (Moulmein), Exit 7B (Jalan Bahagia). That is very near.

From east going westwards

- Exit 11 (Paya Lebar), Exit 13A (Kallang), go out through Exit 15A (CTE City) and join the traffic from the north, pass by Exit 7D (Balestier / Kallang), and exit by 7C (Balestier / Thomson).
Alternatively you can pass by Exit 15A (CTE City), and exit by 17 (Balestier Jalan Datoh) of you are going onto the other side of Balestier.

From west going eastwards

Exit 20B (Lornie Road), Exit 19 (Steven Road), Exit 18 (Onraet Road), Exit 17D (Thomson Road)

For bus directions, I'll update again.

X-Building in Bahagia #1 - Ideas from other Terrace Houses under Renovation

Let's do some fun things today and look at some of the units under renovation. We're also going to compare a layout with a centre vs a side staircase.

Bahagia and Mamor Walkabout

Alright, we bought our first home. Technically, not yet. But in my own terms, yes.

It is a HDB terrace 3-room resale in Balestier and Whampoa. Chuck and I aren't eligible to get direct flats from HDB, hence our options were either getting our hands on a private property or resale HDB. We were leaning towards getting a private property but our budget for a proper 3 bedroom unit in a reasonable location soon got phased off by the booming property. New developments are asking for 800k to 900k which is way above our budget, and resale private property owners are asking for crazy prices above valuation.

So anyway, we made a trip down to our new home today and scouted around the area.

Jalan Bahagia HDB Terrace
The open air triangular carpark. The red-tiled terrace houses you see in the foreground beyond the carpark are the HDB terrace houses in Jalan Bahagia. Each block of terrace houses comes with a block number and each unit is assigned both a block number and a unit number, as is the case with all HDB property. Yellow Orange Whampoa Road flats in the background.
